A DARK BEER. AN OLD MACHINE FACTORY. A CITY BUILT BY MAKERS.
On 26 September, METAALWERK makes its first appearance at Craft Beer Fest Hengelo: an 8.5% Imperial Black IPA forged as a tribute to the city that grew on steel, machines, craftsmanship and people who refused to stand still.
BUILT IN HENGELO
The idea started with Rob Zengerink of De Bierstudio. To mark five years of De Bierstudio and a new two-day edition of Craft Beer Fest, he brought together brewers and creatives from across Hengelo. The brief was simple: do not make another anniversary beer. Make a beer that belongs to the city.
METAALWERK was developed from the collective brewing knowledge of Hengelo. The idea, recipe, story and character all started here.
WHERE THE LIGHT COULDN’T GET IN
Dark, powerful and layered, METAALWERK draws from the factory halls that shaped Hengelo. Places where daylight barely found a way in, heavy metal rested on workers’ shoulders and machines set the rhythm of the city.
This is not a reconstruction of the past. It is a new interpretation: stubborn, layered and unmistakably modern. A dark beer rooted in industrial history, built to show what Hengelo tastes like now.
FROM MACHINE WORK TO METAALWERK
The first pour takes place inside KMS, the former Royal Stork Machine Factory. Where steel was once shaped and machines were built for the world, a new generation of Hengelo makers will raise a glass together.
METAALWERK is a collaboration between De Bierstudio Hengelo, Farsight Brewing, Brouwerij de Ronde Tafel, ATONE Brewing and Tick Tick Boom Design.
