Lakini’s Juice was our second beer, released after Roots. It introduced our take on a hazy IPA and became an important part of Atone’s early story. But a beer is never finished simply because it has been released.
Our brewers, Stefan and Martin, believed the recipe could become more balanced. So we returned to the brewhouse and started experimenting.
A RECIPE REFINED
After several test batches, we gradually adjusted the relationships within the recipe. The water profile played an especially important role, but we also reconsidered the beer’s colour, mouthfeel, alcohol percentage and bitterness.
The goal wasn’t to replace Lakini’s Juice. We wanted to understand what could happen if we refined it.
The interesting part is that the ingredients never changed. ELITE is made with exactly the same ingredients as Lakini’s Juice. It is their proportions, profiles and interaction that have been reworked. Those changes took the beer far enough from the original that releasing it under the same name no longer felt right.
SAME FOUNDATION. DIFFERENT BEER.
ELITE shares its roots with Lakini’s Juice, but it has developed its own identity. It is more refined, more balanced and, in the eyes of our head brewers, a more complete expression of what the original beer could become.
That evolution is also visible in the glass. The colour has changed. The mouthfeel has changed. The alcohol percentage and bitterness have been adjusted. Familiar ingredients now create a distinctly different beer.
WHY ELITE?
The name started as a simple way to describe its place in the family: ELITE is the more sophisticated sibling of Lakini’s Juice. (So is the track ;-))
A little more considered. A little more refined. Elitist? Maybe just enough.
Lakini’s Juice remains part of Atone’s history, and this isn’t necessarily a final goodbye. One day it may return as a legacy release or an Atone classic. For now, ELITE carries the story forward.
The same ingredients. A new balance. A different beer.
